Normally it's an exciting thing to listen to the pledge drive at WUFT-FM. After all, I felt a bond to the station, anchor that it was of the community. Now that the music fans have been disowned, we are on the outside looking in.

The Gainesville Sun seems to have taken to the view that the opposition to WUFT-FM's format change has died down. This would be in line with the hope of one of the consultant's reports (obtained at long last through a public-records request). The report projected that that Dean Wright and friends would have to deal with angry listeners for only one or two weeks. Well, we, the angry listeners, have not obliged him.

On Monday, August 17, a group of us went to Emerson Alumni Hall to have our presence felt. The faculty of the College of Journalism and Communications, we found at short notice, were to gather there for a retreat before the beginning of the school year. We decided to stand in front to greet them as they came it. We serenaded them with a duo of cellists, held signs stating our position, and wished them a good morning as they went in.

Activity on the website has really picked up since we started the petition campaign on the evening of July 29.
